GETTING HERE

COULDN'T BE MORE REWARDING

Getting to Skye is all part of the adventure and you can still come ‘over the sea to Skye’ by taking the CalMac ferry from Mallaig to Armadale, an enjoyable 30 – 40 minute crossing which gives you a real sense of arriving on an island. You can drive to Mallaig along a very scenic road from Fort William – just remember to allow plenty of time as you may want to stop several times to take photos, not least at the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the Harry Potter films.

To make an even more memorable trip you could take the Jacobite steam train from Fort William to Mallaig and take the ferry across as a foot passenger. ‘Ordinary’ trains run from Glasgow Queen Street to Mallaig on the beautiful West Highland Line, which snakes its way around Glencoe and Rannoch Moor before arriving at Fort William and thence on to Mallaig.

If you’ve flown to Inverness, the drive across to Skye alongside Loch Ness and onwards to Kyle of Lochalsh and over the Skye Bridge is still a lovely journey passing Castle Urquhart and Eilean Donan Castle on the way…

So much to experience! Make sure you come for at least a week!
